about

This collection of songs was all inspired by and dedicated entirely to my incredible and inspiring partner, Emma.
A new age is dawning….it’s that simple.
Bring on the future.
Written and recorded through February and March 2023.

Let Yourself Be Whole
There’s a song I wrote for Emma on the 2nd Skinflower album, ‘Falling Into You’ which has this line in it.
It’s a powerful phrase and something I believe we should all try to do more often…something she has taught me.
I’d had the initial idea for this track for a while, pedalling over this 5th chord initially whilst the bassline moved around to dictate the chord positions.
It took a while to actually develop this to a point where I was happy to even begin to create a melody….once I started though, I was instantly harmonising and it grew into what you can hear here with the 3 part harmonies, which as long-term fans know, is one of my favourite things to develop when I’m working with a loop scenario.

No Matter What
This was actually the final piece I wrote for this collection and developed one evening whilst Emma was working and I was sat upstairs noodling away.
As soon as I stumbled on that opening sound though, I was IN!!
Again, creating the layers and allowing the track to develop until the lead line came in.
More harmonies as soon as I had that first line in though.

Emma’s Song
This was the first song I wrote specifically for this EP and went through a few titles until I played a version to Emma and when she said she really liked it, I knew the song was going to be hers and the EP would be for her.
The effects pedals got a real work out on this track and again, once I’d started to stumble across sounds, and create these layers, it grew quite organically.
With such density in the “Backing” track, I wanted to keep the lead line quite simple and have it rise above the layers out on it’s own.

Stargazing
I don’t think there’s many things more humbling than the majesty of space and since childhood, I’ve always loved looking at the stars.
The opening riff came from an exercise I was working with to stretch out my left hand for more “Interesting” chordal movements and after a while, I couldn’t help but start adding in bass notes in my head and this just started to grow. As soon as the RC-30 came out, I was lost in it and it just kept adding layers.
I really enjoy the harmonics part in this and then when the lead line comes in as a rhythmic counterpoint.

Don’t Forget Me
This started one evening whilst I was just playing freely directly into Logic (keeps the neighbours happy) and messing about with the HX Stomp and those opening sounds started to come to life.
Again, it’s quite a heavy signal chain so I wanted to keep the growth quite slow to allow each idea to develop.
Especially where the chords grow and it get’s a little dense, which seems to encourage the “Space Bass” noise to return in order to cut through.
