about

“Embrace” is a beautiful word with so many meanings.
To accept, to hold, to include. It perfectly sums up my position in life this year.
There’s been a big shift and I haven’t been able to sit down and dedicate as much time to working with these noises in this form.
It’s been good to plug back in and see what develops.
Written and recorded through August 2022.

Healing
We are all healing (or trying to) and it’s a journey.
I love using this technique of pedalling a chord and developing an idea around it.
Simplicity was what I was aiming for.
It was a release for me to work through this one and it comes from a place of realising I can be accepted for all of me.

Aura
I conceived the idea for this, sat on the bed one evening after I’d forgotten all the necessary bits to actually record properly.
The inspiration comes from many conversations with my partner about how she uses visualisations and colours in her life.
It took a while to settle on the time signature for this and exactly how the chords would be structured, particularly the suspended chord that resolves at the end of the sequence.

Koi No Yokan
The track that started this creative process. I recently purchased a Line 6 HX StompXL and the noises I’m getting are really getting the juices flowing.
There’s a video on my Instagram of me getting a button hit wrong as well ;-)
The title says it all and this track is dedicated entirely to my incredible partner.

Alexythemia
I came across this word one evening whilst my partner was telling me about psychodynamic theories (I’m currently reading some Freud at the moment so it’s nice to meet in the middle). The idea around not be able to feel emotions caught my attention.
The sounds for this came before anything else. I wanted something thick and lush but where it’s not overly obvious what’s happening (until the bass line arrives).

Chiron
This character from Greek mythology has cropped up a few times in my life.
Recently, he came up regarding his role as the “Wounded Healer” and it made me dive back in a little further.
The chordal idea started to come together at the same time as “Aura”, sat on the bed, pouting that I didn’t have all my equipment with me.
Only when I connected everything up and running through various sounds did it really start to develop.
