about

After the initial trilogy release, these songs just kept coming.
With so much change in the air as well and realising how many "Versions" of myself people encounter, the mood is slightly different but the sounds are still me.....just different versions.
Life away from music was turbulent and I hid behind a mask in order process it all. Depending on who I encountered depended on what mask was shown.
A lot of uncertainty (which I feel comes through on these songs) and getting more into different sounds really gives this EP a different vibe but it captures a moment in time and that is what was important to me.

Track Listing
1 - Purple Motiffs
The main motif developed from an outro as I was writing "Versions".
I felt there was something else to it though so loaded it, harmonised it, put the chords and bass underneath and the melody appeared.
The original title for "Versions" was Purple and after I'd changed that, I wanted to keep it somewhere so it became the title for this.

2 - Letting Go
This grew from a late night session with one of my closest friends (and supporters) in Sherborne.
The initial idea and harmonics sequence all came together quickly based on the noises we were creating.
The melody and harmony parts came a day later. I enjoyed the variation where the harmony switches from an octave to chordal notes.
The title came from the conversation we'd been having about needing to let go of something in order to move on.

3 - Reflections
I've always loved the root & 10th sound and wanted to create something simpler than the previous songs that could be performed without a looper.
This then started to develop and by the time a couple of additional layers were in the looper (obviously) it became this.
A reflection on simplicity.

4 - May Sings Grace
This came about as I was playing with "Amazing Grace" and trying to get from a version of that into something else.
I liked the chords too much to just use them as a segue way though so kept them and amused myself with titling in something phonetically similar.

5 - Rohi
I had been playing with this altered scale for a few weeks.
Having played it to an friend visiting from Dubai, they commented on it having soul, or ("Rohi" in Arabic).
Once he'd given me the title, the rest of the layers came together overnight to try to add to that sense.

6 - Versions
The chord sequence is from an old song called "Purple" I'd written for a band in college.
Having played around with various sections and melodies, I changed up the effects I was using and this just fell out of my hands.
After creating the 5th or 6th version (and "Purple Motiffs" developing) I changed the working title to "Versions" for my amusement and it stuck.
