about

Coming out of the melancholy and starting again (again).
Almost entirely conceived whilst spending time on the Dorset coast during the autumn of 2018 surrounded by what felt like good people.

Recorded in Somerset through the end of November.

Track Listing
1 - Afternoon Fall
Written after spending a day walking the coastlines around Weymouth one autumn afternoon.
Quickly recorded the chords on my phone and finished the recording the following evening.
Having spent most of the day on the phone to some American colleagues, and being over tired, I ended up describing my autumn afternoon as afternoon fall....and it stuck.
Nothing to do with clumsiness.

2 - Wrapped Up
After a morning of playing with effects, I was dragged outside to walk along the beaches.
I'm fortunate that I don't really feel the cold so a jumper and t-shirt is all I need.....she however, had multiple layers. Completely "Wrapped Up".
The song developed from the sounds more than the other way round.

3 - Cubs
I liked the idea of having a pedal riff to put chords over.
The joy of the looper is once you've got the chords in, you can take some of the piano-level extensions and create these gorgeous chords.
This was one of the few songs my cubs witnessed me create from start to finish so it's only fitting that it be named in their honour.

4 - Listening Without Talking
I wanted to create some similar to "Reflections" on the Different Versions.....EP.
Once I'd created the initial loop though, and added the chordal extensions, it became something else.
The title is self-reflective. Apparently, I am a good listener and won't talk unless prompted.....which is apparently a negative trait as well.

5 - Within The Noise
This grew from another late night practice session (spotted the theme yet ;))
My tinnitus had been playing up again and keeping me awake but within the normal conch-esque noise had been some aural-hallucinations.
Hearing music when nothing was there.
This was one of the songs that came from that.

6 - Promises
Written at the same time as "Afternoon Fall".
Having finished the recording of it, I was playing it back before being made to promise to shut down and go to sleep.
It was needed.
