about

2019 finished full of inspiration.
That has spilled into 2020 and there is a feeling of anticipation with newly forged connections and new upcoming projects.
Taking a step away from the last record though, this was a move back to the Loop Pedal set up and really drove me back into exploring some of these layers.

1 – See Me
Written after a particularly odd dream that left me feeling especially confused.
Sat thinking about it the following day whilst practicing and the lead line came out. Once it was in the loop pedal, everything else started to appear and I recorded it later that evening

2 – Not So Secret
I wrote and recorded this Christmas Eve after developing the riff on my son's new keyboard. Once I'd worked it on the bass and loaded it into the RC-30, the melody came through and I was set.
It's all about meeting new people and the positivity that sometimes comes with letting your guard down.

3 – Dazed
December had been exceptionally busy (but not necessarily productive) and I was starting to feel a bit "Dazed" by it all...especially after having caught the dreaded cold everyone seemed to get.
Playing through some old material and this harmonics pattern came through...I saved it in the pedal and came back to it the following day.
An evening's work on it and this had developed.

4 – Wings Clipped
We all choose to occasionally "Clip our wings" and give up some of our so-called freedoms in order to attain something that we may see as more desirable.
I'd been playing around with arpeggiated patterns over a couple of a couple of evenings and this riff stuck in my head. Once I'd switched the time signature and developed the backing in the looper, I really felt it captured the mood of the moment.

5 – By Any Other Name
Sometimes, you acquire a nickname and it feels odd to be called anything other than that.
I've had a few over the years but a recent "Pseudonym" has had me smiling for months.
To paraphrase a British playwright, "A rose by any other name....."
The chords came first with this, with the baseline developing over 4 measures. The way the feeling develops in this, with the energy that the lead line and the percussion brings makes this a really fun to play.

6 – Sway
I've been trying to remember and work out a song from my childhood that I simply can't quite remember.
In doing so though, I developed the riff in this.
Once I'd loaded it into the pedals, the chords and melody came together and despite not achieving the primary goal I was aiming for, I really like how this turned out.
