about

Initially, I planned to release 3 EPs......that then became 10 over a 12 month period and I thought that was it......
BUT, after having pulled back on performing and recording for most of 2019, everything started ramping up after the summer.
This new found inspiration developed into more practicing and whilst I was performing and recording more on my Jazz V, it made me appreciate my Ibanez and what I had previously created so much more.
This made me get back to it and dive back into creating new sounds again.
The recovery is almost complete and I feel that definitely comes through here.

Track Listing
1 - Backburner
I'd been playing with this riff for a few days as I couldn't get the chords underneath it right. I put it to one side for a while and when I came back, it all clicked.
Amusingly, I'd been joking about the amount of stuff I'd had on the backburner the day before I returned to this so it felt appropriate.
If you're able to deal with something, park it and come back to it.

2 - Somnolent
I spend most of my time in some kind of sleep-deprived state.
I wanted something that reflected that "Washy" sensation of sounds drifting in and out when you're struggling to focus on anything.
That level of tiredness is what I wanted to capture

3 - Secret Plaits
A friend of mine used to put the most amazing little plaits in my hair, but would do them so they were hidden unless I tied my hair up.
She is awesome and she likes music in odd time signatures so this is my tribute to her.

4 - Twitch
Most of the 7/8 writing I'd done was pretty much focused on the timings and groupings. I'd done very little where there was an additional grouping.
Inspired by Tool, I added in the extra grouping to the main riff.
The title came from the motion of someone counting in 4s when listening to 7/8 and the double movement from the 7 to the 1.

5 - 1985
I'd been working on some songs for a "Pop" artist and had come up with this theme for him.......then decided he couldn't have it.
Everything we'd been working on had working titles of various years.....this is the year I appeared.
In an effort to move it away from its original version, I added the various layers and rewrote the melody with the intention on being able to really strip it back and use the loop pedal to perform it live.

6 - Kintsugi
Referencing the Japanese technique of repairing broken pottery with lacquer dusted with powdered metals to create something new.
In terms of philosophy, it treats breakage and repair as part of history rather than something to disguise.
I was introduced to the phrase through the band Wildwood Kin and their song "Beauty in your Brokenness".
I appreciated the philosophy so re-wrote what I'd been working on in 9/8 in order to recreate the "Addition" that Kintsugi demonstrates.
