about

Regrouping, redefining and reprioritising in order to make it through the outside chaos.
I was revisiting a level of melancholy that I hadn't expected but it was stil important to me to continue enabling creativity.

Written exclusively in Glastonbury with many of the ideas starting during walks around Glastonbury Tor.

Track Listing
1 - Better Than No One
The percussive loop came first on this.
Various chords came and went and then I just felt the vibe of this, drenched in reverb and delay.
Had a serious ego check at the same time I was writing this and the title grew from that conversation.

2 - Wood For Trees
Another Wood-Themed Title. As the proverb says, "...can't see the Wood for the trees".
The answer, is often right there.
I wanted to capture that in the constant note. It starts the song and then throughout is often covered up by the other layers going on but is still there, popping in and out of focus.
I really liked the denseness of this, especially when all the harmonies kick in on the lead line, again, attempting to capture some kind of metaphor for our own "Fog" when it comes to an answer.

3 - Joy Divided
I'd been having a conversation around whether there is a finite amount of happiness in the world.....so in order for someone to be happy, someone else must ultimately, be sad.
About the same time, I'd started talking to some new (and quite frankly awesome) people and one of them had this as their username.
I'd already started to develop the idea for this song and felt that it was heading into a "Bittersweet" territory so saw this as the perfect title.

4 - Saudade
I'd written a piece of music in college that had 3/4 and 4/4 time together and I wanted to replicate something similar.
Even with the percussive track, I wanted to emphasize the 4 with the melody and have it come back into more of a 3/4 feel at the end.
I was struggling at the time and found a certain comfort in beauty of this Portuguese word.
Roughly translates as the longing for something you can't have.....but more.

5 - Resupply
Developed during an evening of solitude and created almost as a rebellion against the pop music I'd been playing.
Definitely a case of recharging and resupplying myself.

6 - Choices Made
We all have to make choices, we can live with them or allow ourselves to be defined by them.
For too long, I'd been the latter.
I wanted to try and capture a sense of tension and relief with this track (without resorting to dissonance) so combined the second melody using harmonics to create an alternative sound.
