about

“Home” has so many meanings.
For a long time, I was searching for a home as in 4 walls to call my own.
The closest I’ve felt to home was my grandparents’ house….until I met my partner.
It wasn’t until we started spending time together that I started to feel that same sense of belonging, of being home and I realised it had nothing to do with the décor or what was contained within those 4 walls, but the feeling of actually being loved unconditionally that made me feel at home.
Home is a feeling, a sense. It took me a long time to realise this.
For my birthday last year, she bought me the compass shown in the artwork and had it engraved, so I’d always be able to find my way home.
We’d both experienced some turbulence and it couldn’t have been given at a better time.
These songs are inspired by her stories and experiences
Written and recorded through January 2023.

You Have A Voice
We all have a voice and we all deserve to be heard.
I believe most people will have experienced someone trying to quieten us, to stifle our voice, our truth.
People don’t have to listen but that doesn’t mean they can remove someone’s ability to speak.
This song was written after watching someone try to shut down a conversation between two people who were discussing this very point..just because they didn’t want to hear it.
It takes courage to speak up sometimes and I applaud anyone who does it.
The chordal idea developed quite quickly and once I’d started to build the layers, it continued to grow.
I love creating those harmony lines when I’m working on songs in the loop pedal.

A Stranger’s Story
My partner wrote a note in my phone about an experience she had whilst out walking through one of the local towns.
“ When I look around me, the people that I see, I see a lot of eyes and wonder of everyone’s journey…I met a lady who eyes acknowledged mine, I wondered of her experience, her journey, her times of pain, her times of love, what her eyes may of seen and how she sees the world. A kind gentle soul, innocence I see. Eyes are the gateway to connection. She walked away hand in hand with her frail husband but turned around to me and said thank you. It left me wondering what she was thanking me for…”
The idea for this initially developed as a tapping idea but once I’d loaded it in the looper and I started hearing these harmonies, it changed direction and grew it into what you can now hear, focusing on the textures and trying to create that sense of wonder.

A Star
This is a term of endearment my partner uses.
It felt appropriate to use this here, with the star contained in the compass on the cover.
I’d had this chord progression for a while but with a totally different vibe (it was originally in a “Latin-esque” feel for a totally different project) and I was playing around with it and stumbled across this feeling with it.
Once I’d laid in the chords, the melody came really quickly and as soon as I’d laid in that first line, my head was already thinking about the harmonies.
