Kintsugi

from Reverberations by Matthew White

/

about

Referencing the Japanese technique of repairing broken pottery with lacquer dusted with powdered metals to create something new.
In terms of philosophy, it treats breakage and repair as part of history rather than something to disguise.
I was introduced to the phrase through the band Wildwood Kin and their song "Beauty in your Brokenness".
I appreciated the philosophy so re-wrote what I'd been working on in 9/8 in order to recreate the "Addition" that Kintsugi demonstrates.
